Andrea and Jeff’s Boutique Wedding in Port Severn

In mid October I had the pleasure of working with Andrea and Jeff on their wedding day.  The couple were blessed with a wonderful sunny fall day which was a perfect match for the location at the beautiful Rawley Resort, a wonderful boutique hotel – resort, on the shores of the Trent-Severn River Waterway in Port Severn.

We had met at the resort several months in advance of the wedding to scout out the site and talk about prime locations for the ceremony and post ceremony images.  The resort has a faux lighthouse incorporated into the main building so we knew that would be one of the locations we would use, as well as others along the resort’s waterfront.

Andrea’s folks have a strong Scotish background so it was a natural fit for the couple to have a piper on location for the event.

Andrea and Jeff and their wedding party got ready in the resorts well appointed suites, and the outdoor ceremony took place along the waterfront.

After the ceremony I scrambled up to one of the second floor balconies and we got some group shots of the wedding party and all the guests before getting into the family, wedding party and couple, alone images.  The resort has a number of spots that provide great backdrops and we took full advantage of them before heading up to the top of the lighthouse as the sun was setting in the late evening sky.

The reception was a blast and had a real pub like feel with Jeff, the families, and many of the guests gathering around the piano singing a series of wonderful tunes before the formal part of the evening started.  Just before  dinner we snuck outside to get some very low light shots of Andrea and Jeff snuggling in a few of the more private spots on the property.

Brent and Jennifer’s Georgian Bay Engagement Shoot – Parry Sound

It was early in October 2010, when I met Jennifer and Brent at Killbear Provincial Park for their engagement photo session.  Even though it was well before noon, the sun was already bright in the sky and the day was warm, but with that crispness we often find in October in Parry Sound/Muskoka.  I had met Brent and Jennifer several months earlier when they had booked me to shoot their waterfront wedding in Gravenhurst in October, 2011.  This couple were both working at the wonderful AJW Marriott (Red Leaves) Resort and Spa on Lake Rosseau in the heart of  Muskoka. I have photographed several wedding and special events at the Marriott over the past several years and Brent and Jennifer had become familiar with my work there.  It’s always great when staff from resorts you have shot at seek you out for their own weddings.

I love doing weddings, portrait and engagement session in Killbear.  It has a huge natural area that provides some amazing backdrops.   It  didn’t take long for Brent and Jennifer to get into the swing of things and soon they were completely focused on each other as I worked to capture the feelings they clearly have for each other.   In a few days I will be delivering a custom sign in to Brent and Jennifer.  We incorporated Brent and Jennifer’s favourite images from the shoot into the book.  I am looking forward to seeing their reaction to it, and to shooting their wedding in October, 2011.

Caroline and Randy – In Love and Married – Parry Sound-Georgian Bay

One of the things I love most about wedding photography is getting to know wonderful couples, their friends and families.  This was the case with Caroline and Randy.  I shot their wedding in October and enjoyed every minute we spent together.

This couple have a strong bond with each other as well as their family and friends.  Randy and Caroline are especially close to Randy’s mom, dad and grandmother and we had fun incorporating them into the photo session.

The wedding and reception took place just south of Parry Sound and we did some of the post ceremony shots in the woods near the cermony site and then headed off to Georgian Bay’s wonderful shoreline for some more wedding party and couple alone shots before stopping off at the family home for a quick marshmellow roast over an open fire and then off to the reception.

After the wedding Caroline and Randy headed off to Scotland for a wonderful honeymoon to see the sites and to visit with more family; talking with them after their return from overseas it was clear that this will not be their last trip as a couple to that wonderful isle.

Julie & Michael’s Engagement Session – Parry Sound – Georgian Bay

When planning their engagement photo session Julie and Michael wanted to incorporate some of the great background provided by the Muskoka, Parry Sound area.  I will be shooting their wedding at Delta Rocky Crest in July 2011 but rather than do the engagement shoot there I suggested that we do it north of Parry Sound, along a secluded stretch of Georigan Bay’s amazing shoreline.   We met up one nice Sunday in October and drove out to one of the areas I love.  Lots of rock, trees and water – great backdrops.    The day was cool but sunny and we had such a great time that we went well over the time I normally spend on an engagement shoot.   On the way back out to the highway we stopped at some train tracks and got several shots of Julie and Mike along the tracks, just to add something a bit different into the session.    Julie and Mike purchased a custom designed sign in book with their wedding photography package and I have used several of the images from the engagement session shots in their book.  I delivered Julie and Mike’s sign in book a few weeks ago and e-mailed Julie yesterday to make sure she and Mike were happy with it.  I got a prompt response from Julie saying “Yes, we love it!  Thank you so much.”

These two are a lot of fun and are passionate about each other, their careers and life in general.  I am really looking forward to working with them again this summer

Kyle and Sue Get Married at NorthRidge Inn and Resort – Lake on the shores of Lake Bernard

Filed under: Weddings — Tags: — johnbrisbane @ 8:35 pm

It was early October but the cold wind made it feel more like the end of November as I headed over to Northridge Inn and Resort on Lake Bernard, near Sundridge to shoot Kyle and Sue’s wedding.  Sue is a phys ed teacher and she had selected a new pair of pink lined sneakers as her wedding day footware.  Sue and the girls  got ready in one of the resort’s cabins and the ceremony took place out on the long pier  in front of the resort where the couple and their wedding party braved the cool winds coming down the lake as their guests bundled up with scarves and gloves.

After the ceremony we found some great spots out of the wind and used the late afternoon sun to warm up the couple while providing some interesting lighting.  After our couples alone session we got some shots of  Kyle and Sue as they warmed up in front of the fireplace before heading over to the reception area.

Brandy & Todd’s Parry Sound-Georgian Bay Wedding

Family and friends play an important part in Brandy and Todd’s lives so when they were planning their September wedding  they took care to  incorporate both into their special day.  This included having me shoot their spring engagement photos during sugaring season at the family sugar shack that Todd’s grandfather built several years ago and where family and friends helped produce the maple syrup that Brandy and Todd gave to their guests on their wedding day.

Brandy and the girls got ready at Brandy and Todd’s Parry Sound home and we got some shots with Brandy and the girls and Brandy with her parents before heading off to the church.  As is the case in many churches no flash was allowed however the light from the church’s large stained glass windows added some great natural light to the ceremony.   After Brandy and Todd greeted friends and family at a receiving line outside the church we did the family shots at one of Parry Sound’s great parks, using the Sequin River as a backdrop.  Just before heading off to Brandy and Todd’s Georgian Bay Cottage for wedding party and Bride and Groom shots, Brandy’s brother Bob took a bad spill on some wet grass and had to head over to the local hospital.  We continued on the marina and made our way down the Bay to the cottage where we got some great shots of Brandy and Todd with their wedding party, and alone as a married couple.

While the skies threatened rain most of the day it held off until we got all our shots in and we making our way to the reception hall.  Brother Bob was able to rejoin us there, with the help of crutches.

I shoot a lot of receptions and one of the things  I really love about them is they almost always provide some great insight into the couple, their family and friends.  This was certainly the case with Brandy and Todd’s reception.   One example of  this was when Todd surprised Brandy with an original song “Forever Starts Tonight”,  that he and a friend professionally produced specifically for Brandy.  Todd sang the song to Brandy and convinced me and many others, both that he has a great voice and the song has good commercial potential.  A bit later another deeply meaningful guesture was when Todd presented his father with a guitar that his father had used extensively in his younger years.  Todd and Brandy had the guitar restored to its glory days condition, another demonstration of  the importance of family to these two.

You helped expand our product range with orders for several custom sign in books and story-book albums, large canvas gallery wraps, and custom designed cards.

This past fall I have been playing catch up doing blog posts on some of the amazing weddings, engagements, portrait and commercial sessions that made up 2010 and I will do my best to continue to do regular blog posts on much of the rest of the 2010 line up in the coming months, in between working through the custom album orders from 2010 and preparing or another interesting year.

The Girls from Dentistry on the Bay at the Rui Palace,Cabo San Lucas, Mexico – A Great Destination Wedding Location

In early November I had the pleasure of traveling to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, at the end of the Baja Peninsula, to shoot Lori Lahti and John Campbell’s wedding at the Rui Palace.  In the coming months I will do a some posts of their fabulous destination wedding and the great Trash the Dress shoot John, Lori and I did at Lover’s Beach on Land’s End the day after the wedding.  However, in this post I want to highlight the Girls from Dentistry on the Bay  http://www.dentistryonthebay.ca/ and the resort. http://www.riu.com/en-ca/Paises/mexico/los-cabos/hotel-riu-palace-cabo-san-lucas/oferta.jsp

I had the pleasure of photographing the girls from Dentistry on the Bay the their awesome Parry Sound Office several months ago and I did a blog post in June, 2010  about that shoot http://www.bayshorephotography.com/blog/portraits/the-girls-of-dentisty-on-the-bay-parry-sound/ .  It was great to get to know the girls better during the week we spent at the resort.  They had a blast and it was clear that in addition to being happy co-workers that they share a very strong bond of genuine, friendship.

The Rui Palace is a true 5 star resort.  It is on Mexico’s Pacific side and is a huge, exceptionally well appointed resort with carefully manicured grounds and the most attentive, professional and friendly staff I have seen in all my travels throughout the world.  The resort has numerous bars, several restaurants, great  food, two massive pool areas, a long, wide, beautiful sand beach and an absoltutely priceless view  overlooking the Sea of Cortez directly at the world renowned rock formations known as the Arch and Lands End.  Folks looking for a high end, beautiful resort, in a breath taking location, for their destination wedding, will be well served to consider the Rui Palace in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.

Jenn and Alex’s Intimate Muskoka Wedding

The couples who book us to photograph their wedding tend to have several things in common… they love photographs, and they want wonderful images that will stand out from others.  Jenn and Alex were very much like that. From the first time we met it quickly became clear that their wedding photographs were extremely important to them.  I also sensed that they would be willing allot time and energy to allow me to work with them to create some great images.  This proved to be true.  The wedding was in September, at Delta Rocky Crest on Lake Josesph, in the heart of Muskoka.  I have photographed numerous weddings at Rocky Crest and love the wide range of backdrops available on the property.  Instead of the usual ceremony on the dock Jenn and Alex chose to have their service beside the small lake at the back of the resort underneath several tall pine trees. This was a perfect setting for the small, intimate wedding they had planned.

Jenn got ready in one of the resort’s well appointed suites and we got some great pre-ceremony shots of her and the rings.

The Canadian Military plays a big role in Alex’s life so he chose to wear his armed forces uniform for the ceremony and for some of the post ceremony images, then he changed into a suit for the later part of the married couple alone for the first time, shots and reception.  During some lulls in the action during the reception we made a couple of excursions out into the dark and used some great, lowly lit parts of the resort property for some dramatic low light images.

Mary-Lyn and DJ – Married at Parry Sound’s Stockey Center on a wild and stormy day

Mary-Lyn and DJ have been in love with each other for many years.  Although they now live in Barrie, they have strong ties to the Parry Sound area and they had planned for their early September wedding to be on the back deck of the Stockey Center.  During our walk about a few months earlier we had selected a number of great Georgian Bay shoreline locations for post ceremony images.

As it turned out the day of Mary-Lyn and DJ’s wedding we had one of the wildest rain and wind storms in years.   The wild weather required that the location of the wedding and the post cermony shots be changd to inside locations but it did nothing to dampen the strong feelings these two have for each other.

When I connected with the girls, while they were in the later stages of getting ready, it was clear that the strong wind and rain could not put out the sparkle in Mary-Lyn’s eyes.  The ceremony was held inside the Stockey Center’s large performance hall/reception center and then we went up to the second level and balcony area to get shots that captured some of the atmosphere and passion of the day.  Part way through the reception, the rain and wind stopped for about 15 minutes allowing us to slip out side and get some, after dark shots of DJ and Mary-Lyn with the Big Sound in the background.
