Brad & Laura – A Muskoka Engagement – Parry Sound – Cambridge Wedding Photographer

It was a bright, warm, afternoon, the Monday of Thanksgiving weekend, when I met up with Brad and Laura at Muskoka Bible Centre near Port Sydney, in the heart of Muskoka, for their engagement session.

Muskoka Bible Centre has a special place in Brad and Laura’s hearts as they met while working there a few summers earlier. I have photographed at many Muskoka locations but I had never been to the MBC before, so I arrived about an hour early and scouted out the property before Brad and Laura arrived.   There had been a large conference at the centre over the long weekend and the day was unusually bright for mid-October, so  I was keen to find a range of shooting sites that offered a combination of interesting backdrops, as well as a bit of privacy and shelter from the sun.

Brad, Laura and I had not met in person before.  They had booked me a few months earlier and we had handled all the details via e-mail and phone so when they arrived we spent a bit of time talking about how they met at the centre and how that made it a good fit for their engagement photo session.

I started off slowly, letting Brad and Laura get comfortable in front of the lens and before long they were obviously at ease.  We worked our way through several of the spots I had scouted out and were winding down our session when Brad and Laura told me about a spot where they had their first date.  I asked then to show me the spot. They took me down an old trail towards the back of the property to a lovely glade of tall, majestic, pines and hemlocks overlooking a beautiful marsh.  While we were doing a number of shots there Brad and Laura told me about the very romantic picknic they had at that very spot. Watching the excitement in their eyes as they told me about that first date I understood why the MBC had a special spot in their hearts.

I am looking forward to working with this great couple again next August at their wedding north of Burks Falls.

Stephanie and David – A Muskoka Engagement

Stephanie has long had a special place in her heart for Muskoka.  She has cottaged in the area for years so , when Stephanie found the love of her life, in city guy David, it was only natural that she would introduce this blackberry totting, world traveling, mover and shaker, to the rocks, water and pines that help make Muskoka one of the most special spots in the world.

One sunny morning last October, we got togther in downtown Bala,  for this couples engagement shoot.  This seemed a natural fit; not far from Stephanie’s family cottage and an awesome setting with some magestic Muskoka backdrops.  We had a great time and got some nice shots of this wonderful couple.  One of my favourites was one where David was working on his alway present blackberry while Steph gave him “the look”.

I used several of the images from the engagement session to create a custom sign in book for Stephanie and David and I was happy to get an e-mail from Stephanie early in February, shortly after she and David had received the book, letting me know “We love the book.  It is even better than we could have imaged.”

I am looking forward to working with Stephanie and David again this summer when I photograph their wedding at the AJW Marriott Resort on Lake Rosseau.  I have shot at the Marriott several times since it opened. It is an awesome spot for a Muskoka wedding.

Family Portraits on Lake Muskoka

Late last summer I had the pleasure of working with Doug, Susan and their wonderful daughters, Nicole and Amanda, at their cottage on Lake Muskoka.    Daughter Nicole had contacted me in November 2009 to arrange for a gift certificate for a portrait session as a Christmas present for her folks.

Early in 2010 Susan contacted me and we talked about some ideas for the portriat session and possible dates.  As with many families these days it took a fair bit of  co-ordinating of schedules to find a date that worked for everyone.   Eventually we fixed on a Sunday morning, early in September 2010.  The appointed day started with an ominuous, dark sky.  As I made my way from Parry Sound over to the Port Carling area I watched the sky closely and kept my fingers crossed that the light rain would let up.   As it worked out, just before I got to the cottage, the sun broke through giving us some nice dramatic skies that added to the atmosphere and beautiful setting.

After some quick introductions, Doug gave me a quick tour of the property while the girls were doing the final touches to their hair and makeup.  We had a great time and got a wide range of shots of the family together and then of the girls alone, together, and with their guys.

A few of my favourite images from our session are posted below.

A Bracebridge Portrait Session for the Gunner-Orton Family

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of meeting and working with members of the Gunner-Orton Family.  The photo session was part of a celebration of  Neil and  Jenny’s 50th wedding anniversary which will occur abit later this summer.  Their daughter, Simone, had contacted me several weeks earlier about doing a portrait session for Neil and Jenny and their extended family.  In this day of fast paced busy lives it is difficult to get entire families together and this family was no exception with some traveling from the northern USA, Barry’s Bay, and Oakville to Neil and Jenny’s Bracebridge home.  Even though the weather had threatened heavy showers I felt that we would be lucky and we were!  As I pulled into Bracebridge the showers shopped and gave us a wonderful 1.5 hour window to gather everyone at Bass Rock Park and do the shoot.  I love this tiny park.  It has a real Muskoka look and feel and is a real hidden gem with even some long time Bracebridge residents not knowing where it is.  I have used it before to shoot bride and groom and wedding party shots for some of the weddings I have shot in Bracebridge and clients seem to love it’s mix of water, rock and pines.  I have posted a few of the images from our session below.

Flip Event and Meeting Planning Inc. – Event photography – Muskoka – Parry Sound

Yesterday I did a post about Sandy MacIntryre and the celtic group “Steeped in Tradition”.   Today I want to profile the great corporate event planning and production company – Flip Event and Meeting Planning Inc. that designed the evening.   I shoot a fair number of corporate events and this one was one of the nicest I have seen,  everything was done in a Celtic theme with even the resort staff servicing the event wearing celtic garb.   Below are a few more images from the event, including one of Joan,  one of Flip Event’s key people and the piper, both in full celtic dress.  Flip Events is based in both the GTA and Muskoka and provides a wide range of services, including  event planning and production, event design, entertainment and team building.

Sandy MacIntryre – Steeped in Tradition – Event Photography – Muskoka – Parry Sound

Recently I was photographing a special event for a corporate client and I had the pleasure of hearing, seeing and photographing Sandy MacIntrye and the group “Steeped in Tradition”.  Sandy and the group are orginally from Cape Breton and they play a stirring brand of traditional Cape Breton fiddle music.   Sandy has been playing stiring Celtic music for over forty years and is a well know player and teacher of Cape Breton fiddling having performed and conducted workshops throughout the USA, Canada and abroad.  As the evening got started  the magical celtic sounds filled the hall we were in and had everyone moving to the music.  In keeping with the celtic theme of the event there were three great stepdancers an awesome piper and a full assortment of celtic decorations.  A few images from the evening follow. Kate Felsman assisted me with the shoot and took some of the room decor shots I have posted below.

Lisa & Graham – Muskoka Parry Sound Engagement Shoot

Lisa and Graham are another awesome couple that I got to know and work with in 2009.  In the early spring of 2009 we got together for engagement shoot near Lake Joseph in the heart of Parry Sound, Muskoka country.  There was still some snow in areas and we went for a walk with their wonderful, large, and friendly dog who is in some of the shots.  I will do a post on Lisa and Graham’s wedding soon, but I thought I would start with a few shots from their engagement session.

Wedding Photography Highlights from Parry Sound, Muskoka Wedding Photograher – 2009 Season

Bayshore Photography had a great year in 2009.  We  photographed a large number of weddings, throughout Parry Sound, Muskoka and Central Ontario, meet some awesome couples, and shot in some incredibly beautiful settings.

Wedding venues we worked at  in 2009, ranged from several high end resorts  (The Rosseau – Marriott, near Minett; Delta Rocky Crest, near Parry Sound; and Horseshoe Valley Resort, near Barrie), to a many other interesting resorts, churches, cottages and outdoor venues.  These  included a beautiful spring wedding on the shores of the Lake of Two Rivers, in Algonquin Provincial Park, and a wonderful summer wedding for a couple from New Zealand, on Mowatt Island, in the heart of Geogian Bay’s 30,000 islands.

Over the next few months, we will be posting some highlights from our 2009 wedding season.  So please stay tuned and check back frequently.

In the meantime, please take a few moments and explore our updated website.  The portfolio section has several examples of  Bayshore Photography’s wedding, portrait, and travel photography work.  The client feedback section displays some of  the great comments that we continue to receive from couples we have worked with, and the sample album section highlights one of the fully custom designed wedding albums that we did recently.  Enjoy!
