Blenkarn-Campell Family Portriats on Georgian Bay – Parry Sound-Cambridge Photographer

It was early on Thanksgiving Saturday when I meet up with the Campbell family at Desmasdon’s Boat Works  in Pointe au Baril.  After some introductions we boarded one of Desmasdon’s Georgian Bay worthy watercraft and headed out to the Blenkhorn Family cottages on a beautiful Island just beyond the Pointe au Baril lighthouse.  There we met up with Tonya, Andy and their two boys and Shelagh and David, Andy and Wendy’s parents.  Tanya and Wendy had organized the photo session as a gift to the Shelagh and David a few months earlier.  After David gave me a quick tour of their piece of paradise we picked out several sites for our session and I started working with Tonya, Andy and their boys while the others were in the last stages of getting ready.

Although we had started early the day quickly become exceptionally warm and bright of mid October on the Bay.  We used several spots on the property and ended the session with an image the grandkids perched on the branches of one of the huge white pines behind the cottage.

Tanya and Andy have operated Desmond’s Boat Works for several years and have a great selection of wonderful watercraft perfectly suited to Georgian Bay. Check them out if you’re in the market for a new or lightly used boat.

Some Cunninghams having fun in Killbear Park – Parry Sound Photographer

I delivered some enlargements and an album earlier today to Tamara Cunningham.  A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of doing a series of portraits of 25 members of the Parry Sound area Cunningham clan.   Tamara had called me and co-ordinated the extended family shoot about two months earlier.  We opted to use Killbear Provincial Park as the back drop.  Both Tamara and her husband Rick, had worked in Killbear and were familiar with all the great spots in the park.   The day of the shoot there was a light rain but it let up just after we met at the main office.  We headed over to Harold Point, a particularly beautiful part of the park, and one of special significance to Tamara and Rick, as Rick had proposed there several years before.

Below are a few of the images of Tamara, Rick and their three children.

Awesome couple, Awesome family – Parry Sound-Georgian Bay Family Portraits

I first met Dave and Alissa in 2008 when I photographed their wedding at Whitestone Lake Resort between Parry Sound and Sundridge.  We had a lot of fun shooting their wedding and created some great images using beautiful Whitestone Lake as a backdrop.   Fast forward to fall of 2010 when Dave called to say it was time to get some family portraits done.

As I have said many time before it is always a great feeling to be asked to photograph couples, with their young families, a few years after shooting their wedding.    It was a real pleasure to to work with Dave and Alissa once again, but this time with their absolutely wonderful daughters.  We got together late one afternoon last October along a beautiful section of Georgian Bay’s shoreline and had a great time.  A few of my favourites from our session are posted below.

Brent and Jennifer’s Georgian Bay Engagement Shoot – Parry Sound

It was early in October 2010, when I met Jennifer and Brent at Killbear Provincial Park for their engagement photo session.  Even though it was well before noon, the sun was already bright in the sky and the day was warm, but with that crispness we often find in October in Parry Sound/Muskoka.  I had met Brent and Jennifer several months earlier when they had booked me to shoot their waterfront wedding in Gravenhurst in October, 2011.  This couple were both working at the wonderful AJW Marriott (Red Leaves) Resort and Spa on Lake Rosseau in the heart of  Muskoka. I have photographed several wedding and special events at the Marriott over the past several years and Brent and Jennifer had become familiar with my work there.  It’s always great when staff from resorts you have shot at seek you out for their own weddings.

I love doing weddings, portrait and engagement session in Killbear.  It has a huge natural area that provides some amazing backdrops.   It  didn’t take long for Brent and Jennifer to get into the swing of things and soon they were completely focused on each other as I worked to capture the feelings they clearly have for each other.   In a few days I will be delivering a custom sign in to Brent and Jennifer.  We incorporated Brent and Jennifer’s favourite images from the shoot into the book.  I am looking forward to seeing their reaction to it, and to shooting their wedding in October, 2011.

Julie & Michael’s Engagement Session – Parry Sound – Georgian Bay

When planning their engagement photo session Julie and Michael wanted to incorporate some of the great background provided by the Muskoka, Parry Sound area.  I will be shooting their wedding at Delta Rocky Crest in July 2011 but rather than do the engagement shoot there I suggested that we do it north of Parry Sound, along a secluded stretch of Georigan Bay’s amazing shoreline.   We met up one nice Sunday in October and drove out to one of the areas I love.  Lots of rock, trees and water – great backdrops.    The day was cool but sunny and we had such a great time that we went well over the time I normally spend on an engagement shoot.   On the way back out to the highway we stopped at some train tracks and got several shots of Julie and Mike along the tracks, just to add something a bit different into the session.    Julie and Mike purchased a custom designed sign in book with their wedding photography package and I have used several of the images from the engagement session shots in their book.  I delivered Julie and Mike’s sign in book a few weeks ago and e-mailed Julie yesterday to make sure she and Mike were happy with it.  I got a prompt response from Julie saying “Yes, we love it!  Thank you so much.”

These two are a lot of fun and are passionate about each other, their careers and life in general.  I am really looking forward to working with them again this summer

Family Portraits on an Island on Georgian Bay – Parry Sound, Pointe au Baril

Another great family I met and worked with in 2010 was the Hiseler Family.  They love their island retreat on Georgian Bay, about a 10 minute boat ride from the great community of Pointe au Baril and were anxious to have some family portraits done on their special part of the Bay.  We set up the shoot via e-mail and phone and on the appointed day this past August I headed up to Pointe au Baril and was picked up at the main dock by their family launch.  After a short boat ride through some of the most beautiful scenery that Georgian Bay offers we entered a quite cove and met up with the rest of the family at the cottage.  We quickly got to work and captured a wide range of the family and individual images in a variety of locations that allowed us to incorporate the great Georgian Bay landscape that originally drew them to their property several years ago.  I’ve included a few of the shots from our photo session below.  About a month after the shoot I had the pleasure of meeting the Hiselers again to deliver their print enlargements and a  large canvas gallery wrap of one of their favourite images from the photo session.

Parry Sound Family Portriats – The Anderson’s on Georgian Bay

This past September I had the pleasure of meeting and working with Dave and Bernice Anderson and their children.  We were doing a session for the whole Anderson Family at Dave’s father’s place on Georgian Bay, just north of Parry Sound.  After doing the shots of the larger,  extended family group, I always like to also do a range of images of the smaller family groupings,  so we did some with just  Dave and Bernice and their three children.  A few of those shots are below.  We did some  along the shoreline with some of the great rock and white pine that is so charactistic of the Georgian Bay area and then went down the the dock on a part of the shoreline that Dave and Bernice own and got a great shot of them on the dock.

One of the things I like most about doing family portraits is that I get to meet some truly wonderful people.  Dave and his brother know the waters around Parry Sound very well as they operate the well known and popular Island Queen cruises.  If you have never had the opportunity to take one of their Georgian Bay cruises you should.  The scenery is awesome and the Anderson’s add in lots of interesting commentary about the Bay and the area.

Nicole & Glenn – Engaged in Killbear Park!!!

In July I had the pleasure of working with Nicole and Glenn.  Glenn had contacted me several weeks earlier and had shared his plan to propose to Nicole while they were visiting Killbear Provincial Park in July.  We made plans for an engagement shoot a few days after the proposal was to happen.

A few days before the date we had selected for the engagement shoot I got a call from an estatic Glenn saying that Nicole had accepted and that they were looking forward to our engagement session.  A few days later, I met with Nicole and Glenn at Killbear Park and we made our way to it’s striking shoreline.

These two are clearly in love with each other  and as we worked our way through the shoot I learned that the day of the proposal, Glenn had asked Nicole to get up before the sun rose. They then paddled in the dark, out to a small island, just off shore from Killcoursie Campground.  As daybreak came and just as the sun rose, Glenn asked Nicole to marry him!  Glenn clearly has romantic soul!  Their “special island” is in the background of some of the images below.

Jess & Ryan are getting Married!!!!!

One of the couples I worked with in August was Jess and Ryan.  We got together for their engagement shoot on the shores of Georgian Bay, a short distance from my studio. It was early one evening as the sun was settling down a bit casting some nice rays across the water.  We started out at a sand beach not far away and then moved to a different location with some of the granite outcrops that are so charactisitic of the Parry Sound-Georgrian Bay area.

Once we got some of the initial warm up shots under our belt Ryan got right into the swing of things and we got some nice images of these two and the passion they share for one another.    Jess and Ryan have two lovely dogs that are a big part of their lives so during the tail end of the session we worked them into some of the shots.

I won’t be shooting this couples wedding next summer, as I was already booked for another wedding on their date,  but I had just finished designing a custom sign in book for these two using some of their favourite shots from the engagement shoot, so a part of me will be with them on their wedding day.
